Ingredients

  • 100 g walnuts
  • 60 g butter
  • 180 g cream
  • 60 g maple syrup, or pear syrup
  • 4 pinches salt

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the walnuts and roast them in a small pan over medium heat until the nuts smell good. Then add the butter and cream and warm up. Then stir in the maple syrup or pear syrup (called Birnel in Switzerland) and season with salt. Add more syrup if you like it sweeter. Let the mixture boil down for a few minutes. Don`t forget to stir!
  2. After 5 - 10 minutes, pour the mixture into a glass and let it cool down. At the latest when you put the mass in the refrigerator, it will set.
  3. The spread can also be served warm, e.g. as a sauce with ice cream.

  5. The recipe comes from the USA and is made there with maple syrup. I made the spread with pear syrup, which turned out very well and tasted great. I think that you can probably use other liquid aromatic natural sugars, but so far I have only tried pear syrup and maple syrup.
