Instructions

  1. Finely slice or dice the onion. If possible, finely chop the apples with the skin on and dice. Prepare a sauce from the yogurt and the other ingredients and mix in the onions and apples.
  2. In an elongated terrine or casserole dish, cover the bottom with yogurt sauce. Rinse the matjes fillets briefly, pat dry and then place them next to each other on the sauce; Spread the next layer of sauce on top and top with herring fillets again. The conclusion should be the yogurt sauce.
  3. Cover with foil or a lid and let it soak for at least 1 hour. Serve sprinkled with chives or parsley.
  4. We also eat boiled green beans and boiled potatoes.
  5. Don`t be surprised, it`s a lot of yogurt sauce. But we like to eat them so much and therefore take plenty of them.
  6. If there are still herring fillets left over, they also taste good with the sauce served on black bread.
