Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 medium onion (s), chopped
  • 680 g round beef
  • 115 g breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ oregano, dried
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ fennel seeds, ground
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg (s)
  • 225 g mushrooms, brown, cleaned and sliced
  • 30 grams flour
  • 1 liter beef stock or broth

Instructions

  1. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion and sweat for 6 minutes. Then put half of the onion pieces from the pan in a large bowl and the other half in another bowl.
  2. Add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, spices, Worcestershire sauce and egg to the onion pieces in the large bowl and mix everything well. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties. Heat the second tablespoon of oil in the pan over medium heat, add the patties to the pan and fry for 4 to 5 minutes per side, they should be brown on the outside. Remove the Salisbury steaks from the pan and place on a plate. Drain the fat from the pan except for 2 tablespoon.
  3. Put the pan back on the hob, add the mushrooms and sauté for 5 minutes. Add the second half of the onion pieces and sprinkle the flour over them and sweat for 2 minutes. Now pour in the beef stock and bring to the boil. Add the Salisbury steaks to the pan, reduce the heat and simmer gently for another 10 minutes, the sauce should thicken.
  4. Take the steaks with the mushroom sauce out of the pan and arrange on plates. This goes well with mashed potatoes. But noodles also go very well.
