Bread Casserole with Chicken, Mushrooms and Asparagus

Another recipe for “strata” (bread casserole with eggs and milk). Who knows the Ukrainian language, do not pay attention to the name – this is a very tasty dish (and “strata”, in fact, is “layers, layers”).

Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • Butter – ¼ glass
  • Asparagus, cut into 2.5 cm pieces – 450 g
  • Mushrooms (royal champignons), chopped – 220 g
  • Chopped garlic – 2 cloves
  • Cooked chicken meat, cut into pieces – 2 cups
  • Salt – 1 ¼ teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper – ½ teaspoon.
  • Eggs – 8 pcs.
  • Milk – 3 ½ cups
  • Bread (dough), diced – 8 glasses
  • Swiss cheese – 300 g

Directions

  1. Grease your baking dish (or coat with non-stick spray). Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute the asparagus, mushrooms, and garlic for 6 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in chicken pieces, salt, and pepper.
  2. Beat eggs with milk. Place 4 cups of bread on the bottom of the greased tin. Then, half of the mixture with asparagus and chicken. Sprinkle with half of the grated cheese. Pour half of the egg and milk mixture. Repeat all layers one more time. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
  3. Preheat oven to 175 degrees. Remove the stratum from the refrigerator and leave at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  4. Bake in the oven for 60-70 minutes (cover with foil if the top starts to burn). Remove the prepared stratum from the oven, leave for 10 minutes, and then serve. Bon Appetit!
