American Sausage Casserole (for Breakfast – But Not Only!)

Attention: The preparation includes a resting time of at least 8 hours overnight.
Grease a form (24 x 30 cm) with the butter. Cut the loaves of bread into approx. 2 cm cubes and spread them on the bottom of the pan.
Sear the sausage meat in a pan on the stove over medium heat, cut into small pieces and fry until all pieces are cooked through. Take the bratwurst pieces out of the pan with a slotted spoon and distribute evenly on the bread cubes, then sprinkle the cheese on top. Mix the milk, whipped cream, mustard powder, salt and eggs in a bowl and pour this mixture over the cheese.
Cover the mold with aluminum foil and place in the refrigerator overnight so that all the ingredients combine well. The next day, preheat the oven to 175 ° C (if possible bottom heat, otherwise top / bottom heat).
Place the tin covered with aluminum foil in the oven and bake the saucepan for 50 minutes. Then remove the aluminum foil, the saucepan should be light brown and firm. If it is too light and not yet firm, bake for another 5 - 10 minutes without the cover.
Take the pan out of the oven and let the saucepan sit for 15 minutes before serving.
