Cabbage Stewed with Pickles

Try the unusual combination of cabbage and pickles. Fry cucumbers with onions, and then simmer them with cabbage and tomato paste. You will love the result – a lean dish with a spicy taste made from simple and affordable products!

Ingredients

  • White cabbage – 350 g
  • Pickled cucumbers – 160 g (3 pcs.)
  • Onions – 130 g (1 pc.)
  • Tomato paste – 25 g (1 tablespoon without a slide)
  • Vegetable oil – 30 ml (2 tablespoons)
  • Sugar – 0.25 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

Directions

  1. We prepare the necessary products.
  2. Cut the peeled and washed onion into small cubes.
  3. We also cut cucumbers into small cubes.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the onion for 2-3 minutes, until transparent.
  5. Add cucumbers and fry for a couple of minutes.
  6. Cut the cabbage into long, thin strips.
  7. Add cabbage, tomato paste, sugar to the onion with cucumbers, salt, and pepper a little (keep in mind that the cucumbers are salty) and add 150 ml of warm water. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 25-30 minutes. Add more hot water if necessary.
  8. We serve cabbage stewed with pickled cucumbers warm as an independent lean dish, or as a side dish for meat dishes.
