Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame sandwiches (ham and cheese sandwiches)
by Editorial Staff
The traditional French hot croque monsieur sandwich is ham and cheese baked between two slices of white bread. Sandwiches turn out to be rosy and crunchy, hence the word “croque” appeared in the name (fr. “Croquer” – crunch). And “croc-madam” is the same sandwich-sandwich, only in a “hat” of fried eggs.
Servings: 4
Cook: 20 minutes
Ingredients
White bread – 300 g (8 slices)
Butter (room temperature) – 20-30 g
Ham – 100 g (8 thin slices)
Hard cheese – 200 g
Olive oil – 20-30 g (2 tablespoon. L.)
Large eggs – 4 pcs.
Directions
Brush slices of bread with butter on one side.
On 4 slices of bread (on the non-oiled side), place two thin slices of ham and thinly sliced cheese each.
Top with the remaining bread (butter facing up).
Heat a large skillet, lightly oiled, over medium heat. Arrange the sandwiches neatly in the skillet so that they are not too close to each other. Cook for about 5 minutes on each side. The Croque Monsieur sandwiches are ready!
Dry the pan. Add olive oil and heat.
Gently break the eggs into a skillet (to keep the yolk intact) and fry the fried eggs over medium heat.
On each sandwich, place one fried egg on top (“hat” for “madam”). Serve the hot croque-madam sandwiches immediately.
Bon Appetit!
