Instructions

  1. For the marble cake batter, the margarine is stirred until it is frothy. Then sugar, eggs, salt, milk, vanilla sugar and the sifted flour and baking powder are stirred in. The dough is divided into two halves and one half is colored dark with the cocoa. Place the two halves of the dough one after the other in a large box cake tin and mix a little with a fork to create a marbled structure. Bake at 160 ° C for about 40-50 minutes. Simply use a skewer to test whether the dough is through.
  2. Let the cake cool down a bit and turn it out of the tin. Now cut about 2/3 of the top cake in and off so that 1/3 of the cake remains as a driver`s cab for the car. If the cake has not gotten that high, the cut piece can also be cut to the driver`s cab and placed there. This works best when the cake is still a little warm and the pieces can cool down on top of each other.
  3. After the cake has cooled down, the marzipan is colored with the food coloring and rolled out between two cling films about 2-3 mm thick. You shouldn`t be able to see through, because that way holes quickly appear. Make sure that the rolled out marzipan is roughly the shape of the cake, so you don`t have to mend so much afterwards. Pour the marzipan over the cake and press firmly.
  4. For my cake, I applied the marzipan in two steps: first the driver`s cab and then the back of the car. The transition can be easily passed. This works best if you wet your hands a little beforehand, because the marzipan sticks strongly. In this way you can repair holes if necessary and make them invisible by spreading them.
  5. Complete the car with cookies, smarties and a ladder made of cookie dough. A cookie dough was used for the ladder and coated with chocolate for reasons of stability. But you could also use chocolate mikado sticks or ice cream rolls. There are no limits to creativity here.
