Ingredients

  • 350 g smoked tofu
  • 5 chilli pepper (s), e.g., Habaneros
  • 5 clove (s) garlic
  • 2 teaspoon, heaped sugar
  • 40 ml soy sauce, Japanese
  • 40 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar or lemon juice
  • sesame oil

Instructions

  1. The smoked tofu is cut into cubes with an edge length of 2 cm. The chili peppers are quartered. The kernels and white partitions are removed. The garlic - it can also be Chinese garlic - is cut into thin slices.
  2. First the chillies and then the garlic are fried in oil until they are a bit brown, then the tofu cubes and the sugar are added. When the sugar has melted, add soy sauce and water. When the liquid has boiled down, the dish is ready.
  3. Since the dish is quite spicy, it goes well with other (milder) dishes on an Arabic or Asian table with couscous or rice. As a side dish, it results in correspondingly more servings.
