Ingredients

  • Sifted flour – 400 g
  • Milk (warm) – 250 ml
  • Pressed yeast – 15 g
  • or dry yeast – 2 teaspoons flat
  • Vegetable oil – 1-2 tbsp
  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Butter – 70 g
  • Yolk (for greasing bread) – 1 pc.
  • Milk (for greasing bread) – 1 tbsp
  • Sesame (for sprinkling on bread) – to taste

Directions

  1. We’ll use the butter, sesame seeds and egg for the finished dough later.
Combine all the other ingredients (flour, milk, yeast, sugar, salt and vegetable oil) and make the dough.
We heat the milk until slightly warm (about 40 degrees).
  2. I recommend making a quick dough every time before kneading the dough.
To do this, pour the flour into a larger cup. We make a depression in the flour. Pour warm milk into the depression, add sugar and crumbled yeast. Mix milk with sugar and yeast and leave on the table for 10 minutes.
  3. When the dough comes up, add salt and vegetable oil along the edge (1 tablespoon).
  4. Knead soft dough.
The dough for this bread is slightly sticky, so brush your hands with vegetable oil as you knead.
  5. We give the dough under the film to rise well in a warm place for about an hour.
  6. After that, knead the dough again, divide it into 10 equal parts (you can use the scales) and round it.
We also give the blank-shaped balls to distance right on the table under the film for about 20 minutes.
  7. Melt the butter in the microwave (or in a thick-bottomed saucepan over minimal heat, or in a water bath).
  8. We cover the bottom of a detachable baking dish with parchment (or, as in my case, cover a baking sheet with parchment and install a detachable ring on top).
Lightly grease the table with melted butter. Stretch each piece of dough into a flat cake with a diameter of 10-12 cm. Dip the flat cakes in melted butter.
  9. We spread the “elephant ears” in a prepared baking dish in a circle overlapping each other.
We give the bread to rise under the film right on the table (about 20 minutes).
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
  10. Shake the yolk with milk.
Before baking, grease the bread with yolk and milk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  11. We bake Serbian bread “Elephant ear” in a preheated oven at a temperature of 200 degrees. Focus on your oven, mine did it in 20 minutes.

Bon Appetit!
