Ingredients

  • 1 kg flour
  • 1 cube yeast
  • 100 g suar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 90 g butter, soft
  • 90 g clarified butter or lard, soft
  • 1 handful raisins, washed and dried
  • 1 handful hazelnuts, whole
  • 0.5 liter ½ milk, lukewarm

Instructions

  1. Put the flour in a bowl, make a well in the middle and mix the crumbled yeast with a little lukewarm milk to make a pre-dough. Let rise for about half an hour.
  2. Now knead together with the other ingredients into a smooth dough and let rise for about 1 hour.
  3. Divide the dough into 3 or 4 parts, make a plait, let rise for another 10 minutes, then brush with egg yolk.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven at 200 ° for 30-40 minutes.
  5. Possibly apply a powdered sugar glaze to the still warm braid.
  6. My tip: instead of raisins and nuts, knead in whole aniseed
