Ingredients

  • 1 head white cabbage, pointed cabbage, cut
  • 1 small onion (s), finely diced
  • 0.5 clove ½ garlic, diced
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • 4 carnation (s), whole
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds, whole
  • 4 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 3 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, white
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • some pepper, for seasoning
  • 300 ml vegetable stock
  • possibly cornstarch, mixed for binding

Instructions

  1. Remove the cabbage from the stalk, quarter and cut into strips that are not too thin. Peel and dice the onion and garlic. Wash and peel the apple, remove the core and cut into small pieces. Heat the butter or oil in a saucepan and sauté the onion and garlic cubes and the sliced apple until translucent. Add the washed, drained white cabbage and immediately pour over the vinegar and the vegetable stock. Add sugar and all the spices and let simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The herb should still have some bite.
  2. To taste, if necessary, season with salt and vinegar and thicken with a little mixed cornstarch!
  3. We like to eat this vegetable side dish with pork ribs with fried potatoes!
