Ingredients

  • g 1,000 flour
  • 500 ml milk
  • 160 g suar
  • 160 g butter

  • 2 tablespoon quark
  • 2 packs vanilla sugar
  • 1 cube yeast

Instructions

  1. Put the flour in a large bowl and make a well. Warm the milk slightly and pour it into the well. Add the crumbled yeast and stir the milk and yeast with a fork until the yeast has dissolved. Add sugar, vanilla sugar, salt, warmed butter and quark and knead everything together well.
  2. Knead until the dough is elastic and smooth. About 10 minutes by hand, correspondingly less with the food processor. If you like, you can add raisins and almond sticks as required. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise twice as much for about 2 hours.
  3. Sprinkle a baking board with flour, add the yeast dough and knead again by hand. Now preheat the oven to 50 ° C. Now braid the braid from three strands into a braid.
  4. Place the braid diagonally on the greased baking sheet or lined with baking paper. Now put the braid in the preheated oven and let rise there for another 1/2 hour. Then set to 170 ° C (hot air), put a bowl of water in the oven and bake the braid for about 35 - 40 minutes.
  5. If you like, you can put a lemon frosting on the braid. To do this, mix the powdered sugar with lemon juice and a little water to a spreadable mass and coat the slightly warm cake with it.
  6. But you can also brush the braid with whisked egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking. I prefer frosting.
