Beans with Ham, in Tomato Sauce

Beans with ham in tomato sauce are delicious, not too familiar, and not at all difficult. Boil the beans, fry and simmer vegetables, fry the ham, put everything together. Ham gives the second course a pleasant smoky taste, tomato paste – sourness, and Bulgarian and hot peppers – spice and piquancy.

Ingredients

  • White beans (medium-sized) – 300 g
  • Onions – 150 g (1 pc.)
  • Sweet Bulgarian pepper – 120 g (1 pc.)
  • Smoked ham – 100 g
  • Tomato paste – 40 g
  • Hot pepper (small) – 1 pc.
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter (for frying) – 40 g
  • Fresh dill (for serving) – several branches

Directions

  1. We prepare the necessary products. During cooking, you will need 1.5 liters of water for soaking and boiling the beans, as well as 1 liter of water for the sauce. I used 1 hot pepper. If you like it spicier, take a large hot pepper or even two peppers.
  2. We sort out the beans, rinse and pour 1.5 liters of water. We leave for 1 hour.
  3. Pour the swollen beans together with water into a saucepan and put on fire. Bring the beans to a boil, reduce heat and cook. (My beans were cooked for 50 minutes.)
  4. Peel the onion, rinse and cut into medium cubes.
  5. Peel the bell pepper from seeds and stalks, rinse and cut into medium cubes. We wash the hot pepper and cut it across into several parts.
  6. Heat 20 g of butter in a frying pan, put onions, and fry until transparent. Add bell and hot peppers, mix and fry for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add tomato paste to the fried vegetables.
  8. Mix vegetables with tomato paste and heat a little.
  9. Discard the boiled beans in a colander.
  10. Combine boiled beans and vegetables fried with tomato paste in a saucepan.
  11. Pour 1 liter of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add salt, reduce heat, and cook for 10 minutes.
  12. While the beans are cooking, cut the ham into cubes.
  13. Heat the remaining butter in a frying pan and fry the ham until golden brown.
  14. Add ham to beans with vegetables and cook everything together for another 1-2 minutes.
  15. Beans with ham, in tomato sauce, layout in portions and decorate with dill sprigs. We serve hot as an independent dish for lunch or dinner.
