Prepare the coffee, stir in the sugar and dissolve it. Stir in brandy if desired. Pour the cooled coffee into a shallow bowl and place in the freezer. As soon as the mass starts to freeze, run a spoon along the bottom of the mold and loosen the already frozen coffee. Repeat this process gradually until the entire mixture is finely divided and frozen through. Pour the granite into glasses. Garnish with espresso coffee beans and serve immediately.
