Ingredients

For the yeast dough:

  • 1 kg wheat flour type 405
  • 500 ml water, lukewarm
  • 2 packs dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 150 ml milk, lukewarm

Also:

  • 80 ml vegetable oil, neutral, for frying or deep-frying

Instructions

  1. For the yeast dough, put the warm water in a large bowl and dissolve the yeast and sugar in it. Then the milk is added. In the next step approx. 1/3 of the flour is added and mixed well with the liquid. Then add the salt, the oil and the rest of the flour and everything is kneaded into a smooth, slightly sticky dough. Covered with a damp kitchen towel, the dough should then rise for about two hours.
  2. After walking, lightly greased hands are used to gradually cut off small portions and shape them into flat cakes. To do this, the dough is simply pulled apart slightly. So that it does not bulge too much when baking, a small hole should be made in the middle of the flatbread. Then they are carefully placed in hot vegetable fat and fried.
  3. If you`d rather forego deep-frying, you can bake the threads like flat bread in a lightly greased and coated pan. Immediately after baking, they should drain briefly on kitchen paper and can then be served as a salad or side dish, with meat and fish dishes or with cinnamon sugar, honey or maple syrup.
