Garlic Bread “Snail”

This bread is unusual both in form and content. Such bread is prepared in an original way: strips of yeast dough, smeared with a mixture of dried dill with garlic and vegetable oil, are laid out around one another like a snail. The finished bread is poured with a garlic-dill mixture, and it turns out to be unusually aromatic and appetizing!

Ingredients

For the test:

  • Milk – 100 ml
  • Water – 100 ml
  • Dry yeast – 1 teaspoon
  • Flour – 350 g + for working with dough
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon

For filling:

  • Dried dill – 2 g
  • Garlic – 1 clove
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp + for greasing the mold

To grease the bread:

  • Fresh dill – 8 g
  • Green onions – 8 g
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Vegetable oil – 3 tbsp
  • Water – 3 tbsp

Directions

  1. Combine warm milk, water, yeast, sugar, salt in a bowl. Let’s mix.
  2. Slowly adding flour, knead the dough, first in a bowl. Let’s continue kneading the dough on the table. Yeast dough loves attention, so we will knead for at least half an hour. Then put the dough into a bowl.
  3. Cover the bowl with a towel and put it in a warm place for an hour or two to rise. The matched dough will increase in volume. On a working surface sprinkled with flour, roll out the dough into a rectangular layer about 1 centimeter thick.
  4. Let’s prepare the filling. To do this, peel the garlic and pass it through a press. Combine vegetable oil, dried dill, and garlic in a bowl. Let’s mix.
  5. Lubricate the dough layer with the garlic mixture evenly over the entire surface. Cut the dough into strips about 4 cm wide.
  6. Grease a baking dish or baking sheet with vegetable oil. Roll one strip of dough into a roll with a spread inward and place it in the center of the form with a “curl” at the top.
  7. Wrap the “curl” with the next strip of dough (also with a spread inside), then another one. And so, until we use all the strips of dough. You will get a big “snail”. Let us leave this blank for half an hour for proofing. After 15-20 minutes, turn on the oven to heat up to 200 degrees.
  8. After the time has elapsed, we send the form with the workpiece to an oven preheated to 200 degrees for about 30 minutes, until the bread is browned.
  9. While the “snail” bread is being baked, prepare a mixture for greasing the bread. To do this, finely chop the green onions and dill.
  10. In a saucepan, combine water with vegetable oil. Peel the garlic put it through a press, and adds it to a saucepan, send the onion, and dill there. Boil this mixture over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  11. Remove the freshly baked bread from the mold, put it on a serving dish, and brush with the prepared onion-garlic-dill mixture. Thanks to this lubrication, the bread stays fresh longer and acquires additional taste.
  12. We cut the bread and serve it to the table
