Ingredients

  • 250 g white bread, soft, diced
  • 30 g raisins
  • 250 g apples, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 120 g suar, brown
  • 400 ml milk
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ vanilla extract
  • 2 egg (s)

For the sauce:

  • 50 g suar, white
  • 30 g suar, brown
  • 125 ml milk
  • 100 g butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 ° C. Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix the bread cubes, apples and raisins together.
  3. Put the brown sugar, milk and butter in a small pan and heat until the butter is completely melted. Stir a few times. Pour this liquid over the bread and apple mixture. Everything can now be put in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs with cinnamon and vanilla extract and pour evenly over the ingredients in the mold. Bake the casserole for 40-50 minutes.
  5. In the meantime, prepare the vanilla sauce. To do this, put both sugar, milk and butter in a small pan and heat slowly while stirring constantly. Bring to the boil briefly and immediately remove from the hotplate. Finally stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. This vanilla sauce is very American and very substantial, but tasty. As the fat floats on top, stir again briefly before serving.
