Ingredients

  • 500 g lentils, dried, reen, washed and sorted
  • 4 carrot (s)
  • 2 onions)
  • possibly fat
  • 5 medium potato (s)
  • 1 bunch soup greens (celery, parsley, carrot, leek)
  • 3 teaspoons broth, grained
  • 300 g bacon (Gelderländer twin bacon), cut into lare cubes or strips
  • 1 Pepper, from the mill
  • sugar
  • vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Bacon rind, sections with cartilage, etc. nicely smoked
  • 1 ½ liter water, measured out

Instructions

  1. Designed for a 6.5l slow cooker with automatic - possible with half the amount in the 3.5l and the same cooking times.
  2. First cut the onions into small cubes and put them in a frying pan with a little fat (if necessary). In the meantime, chop all the other ingredients apart from the bacon as well. The fastest way to do this is with a kind of crocodile, where you put the vegetables in and close with a swing and the little cubes fall out below. You can also grate it very roughly with a food processor - or with a little time with the good old knife.
  3. Put some of the chopped vegetables in the pan as they come to fry. In total about a soup ladle full.
  4. Measure out a liter of water for the lentils. Place the rinds and some of the bacon at the bottom of the slow cooker, with the lentils on top.
  5. When the onion / vegetable mixture is slowly turning brown, stir in the tomato paste and mustard and roast briefly, then deglaze with water from the measured amount and remove from the plate. Let it cool down a bit and then pour it into the SC.
  6. Now add all the other ingredients, but not the granulated broth, to the SC, the rest of the water and then half a liter - a total of 1.5 liters of water is needed for this recipe.
  7. When everything is in the SC, the lid is closed and automatic for 5 hours - 6 hours are also possible, but then the lenses are really soft - too soft for me. Without automatic: 1 hour on HIGH and 3 hours on LOW. When the lentils are soft, stir in the granulated broth.
  8. The amount is enough for 6 hungry people without any other side dish.
