Instructions

  1. This recipe is suitable as lunch porridge for the baby from the beginning of the porridge eating time. It is so changeable that it can be used for a long time and adapted to the new needs of the child.
  2. If the lunch porridge is given for the first time, introduce the porridge gradually: first only feed the vegetables pure in a few spoons and gradually increase the amount. Add the potatoes only after a week, and add the oil after another week.
  3. I recommend using organically grown ingredients. Use only one type of vegetable at a time for smaller babies. If the child is familiar with the vegetables, the varieties can also be combined. Just try out what the child likes. Beware, some children react to carrots with constipation!
  4. Thoroughly clean, peel, wash and dice the vegetables. Steam with a little water in a closed pot at low temperature until the vegetables are soft (10 to 20 minutes depending on the variety). At the same time, cook the potatoes with their skin on, also for about 20 minutes. Peel the boiled potatoes.
  5. Finely puree the cooked vegetables with a blender and some of the cooking liquid. If necessary, add more cooking liquid or boiled water until the consistency is pleasant.
  6. Do not puree the potatoes, otherwise they will be sticky! Instead, squeeze through a potato press or mash with a fork and then pass through a sieve. That takes work, but is worthwhile at the beginning, so that the spread is nice and fine. Then add the potatoes to the vegetable mash, mix in well and add some liquid if necessary.
  7. Freeze the porridge in small portions. Small plastic cups are well suited (e.g. available from Nuby in two sizes). Leftovers are great to freeze in ice cube trays - then you have very small amounts to add to the portions if you are particularly hungry.
  8. It is best to let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator (or in a water bath if it has to be done quickly). Before heating, add a tablespoon of good quality vegetable oil to the portion of porridge.
  9. Variation: if you want to add meat, beef or chicken from the baby jar can be added two to three times a week after defrosting. Divide a baby glass into two to three servings.
  10. Once the child has their first teeth, you can introduce them step by step to somewhat coarser breaking. First do not puree the vegetables quite so finely or pass them through the larger holes in the liquor Lotte. If the child gets along well with it, just mash the potato with a fork and mix it in.
  11. Finally, very soft-boiled short-grain rice can also be added to the porridge in small quantities (it is best to mix in carefully after defrosting and then increase the amount from day to day) later also small noodles.
