Soda Bread with Flax Seeds

Lean soda bread, made without yeast and enriched with flaxseeds, is incredibly healthy and tasty baked goods with a unique flavor. Be sure to try baking!

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour – 350-400 grams (1 grade)
  • Flax seeds – 20 Grams
  • Water – 250 Milliliters
  • Table salt – 0.5 Teaspoons
  • Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Citric Acid – 0.5 Teaspoons

Directions

  1. As you can see in the photo, making soda bread requires fairly simple ingredients. In the absence of flaxseeds, they can be replaced with another useful component (dried herbs, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds).
  2. First of all, fill the flaxseeds with hot water (50 ml), taken from its total amount and heated to 85-90 degrees (no need to bring to a boil). As a result, they will become softer and will not spill out of the finished product.
  3. While the seeds are infusing, combine the sifted flour, salt and baking soda in a mixing bowl. For more efficient mixing of dry components, it is convenient to use a whisk.
  4. When the flaxseeds are swollen (after 3-5 minutes), combine them with the dry mixture.
  5. Dissolve citric acid in basic water (200 ml) and pour into a bowl of dry mixture, quickly knead a soft dough.
  6. Put the dough in the prepared form, bake for 10-15 minutes at 70 degrees, and then another 35-40 minutes at 200 degrees. Alternative: place the bread in an unheated oven, setting the regulator to 160-170 degrees, and after 10-15 minutes increase the baking temperature to 200 degrees.
  7. In the process of such baking (in 2 stages), the soda bread rises well and bakes evenly.
  8. Let the cooked flaxseed soda bread cool slightly, then serve.
