Squid in a Spicy Sauce

Squid in a spicy piquant sauce is quite easy to cook. It is enough to have on hand a standard set of products that can be found in the kitchen of almost every housewife. The sauce can be bought ready-made, or you can cook it yourself.

Ingredients

  • Olive or other vegetable oil – 1 tbsp + 250 g for frying
  • Onions (chopped) – 1 pc.
  • Tomato sauce – 250 g
  • Red wine vinegar – 3 tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Ground red pepper 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried oregano – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Peeled squid – 500 g
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Flour – 2/3 cup
  • Lemon wedges and parsley sprigs for garnish

Directions

  1. Prepare the tomato sauce. In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon over medium heat. l. vegetable oil. Add onion and fry until golden brown. Add tomato sauce and next 5 ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Cut the squid into rings, 1.7 cm thick.
  3. In a bowl, beat the egg lightly. Pour flour on baking paper. Heat 250 g butter in a deep skillet over medium heat. Dip the squid in an egg and then in flour and fry in oil, spreading out in small batches. Fry until golden brown.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to place the squid rings on baking paper. Serve warm with tomato sauce. Decorate with lemon wedges and a sprig of parsley.
