Cabbage with Chicken and Millet

Diversify your lunch menu with a delicious soup called cabbage soup. From the name it is already clear that the main ingredient in the recipe is cabbage (in our case, sour). Cabbage soup with chicken and millet is a traditional dish of Slavic cuisine.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breast – 350 g
  • Millet – 1/3 cup
  • Sour white cabbage – 300 g
  • Potatoes – 3-4 pcs.
  • Carrots – 1 pc.
  • Bulb onions – 0.5 pcs.
  • Lard – 80 g
  • Parsley (greens) – 4 branches
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Water – 2.8 L

Directions

  1. We prepare the necessary ingredients for sauerkraut cabbage, with chicken breast and millet.
  2. How to cook cabbage with chicken and millet: We wash the chicken breast, put it in a saucepan and fill it with water. When the water boils, we reduce the fire. Boil the breast until tender. Remove the boiled chicken breast from the pan, season the resulting chicken broth with salt.
  3. Cool the chicken meat, cut into pieces. We peel the potatoes, chop them into cubes or cubes. Put the potatoes with the meat in the chicken broth.
  4. We wash the millet very thoroughly. After rinsing, the water should become completely transparent. You can pour boiling water over millet for 5-7 minutes (so that the cereal does not taste bitter).
  5. Let’s prepare vegetables for cabbage. Grate the peeled carrots, and finely chop the onions.
  6. Cut the bacon into small pieces.
  7. Preheat a frying pan, put pieces of bacon in it. We melt them, and then we transfer vegetables to the pan. Saute the carrots and onions until soft.
  8. We wash the millet again. We transfer it to a saucepan for semi-finished potatoes.
  9. Next, add sauerkraut to the pan (it is not necessary to rinse it). Cook soup with millet and cabbage until cabbage is soft.
  10. We shift the frying of vegetables into the chicken soup with cabbage. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  11. At the end of cooking cabbage, add chopped parsley. Salt and pepper the soup.
  12. Cover the finished cabbage with chicken and millet. Let the soup brew for 15 minutes, then serve.
