Candied Watermelon Peels

Candied watermelon peels are an original delicacy for lovers of all kinds of sweets. These original candied fruits are very easy to make at home. You just need to be patient, since this process is by no means quick. The taste of candied fruits from watermelon peels is not watermelon, but something distant fruit and berry is guessed.

Ingredients

  • Watermelon peels (boiled) – 500 g
  • Sugar – 300 g
  • Water – 220 ml
  • Citric acid – 2 g
  • Powdered sugar – 0.5 tablespoon.

Directions

  1. Prepare the necessary ingredients for making candied watermelon peels.
  2. Peel the watermelon crusts as thoroughly as possible from the remnants of pink pulp and peel off the layer of the green peel with a peeler.
  3. Use a knife or ribbed knife to cut the crusts into the shapes you want.
  4. Transfer the crusts to a saucepan and cover with water flush with the crusts.
  5. Let the water boil and cook the watermelon rinds for 5 minutes, then drain in a colander and let the water drain. At this stage, weigh the crusts, measure out the right amount of water and sugar.
  6. Bring sugar and water to a boil, add watermelon rinds to this syrup and cook for 5 minutes after boiling. Leave the crusts in the syrup to cool and infuse for 12 hours.
  7. Thus, carry out 5 more approaches with 5 minutes of boiling and 12 hours of standing. During the last boil, add citric acid (optional flavors and/or colors). After all the procedures, the crusts will become transparent, shiny, the syrup will thicken and evaporate.
  8. At this stage, candied fruits in syrup are obtained, which are already ready for storage and consumption. Transfer the candied fruit in syrup to a jar, cover, and refrigerate until serving.
  9. For lovers of candied fruits in the usual sense (without syrup, dried), we will continue to manipulate. Drain the candied fruit in the syrup in a colander and leave for 1 hour to allow the syrup to drain as much as possible.
  10. Then place the candied fruits on a wire rack or parchment and leave to dry for a couple of days. Ready candied fruits do not stick to your hands but remain soft.
  11. Roll the finished candied fruits in icing sugar and transfer to a hermetically sealed container. Store candied fruit in this form at room temperature.
  12. Candied watermelon peels are sure to please you and your loved ones.
