Stewed Beef in Tomato Sauce

Stewed beef in a sauce of juicy ripe tomatoes is just an incredibly tasty dish that goes perfectly with any side dish: porridge, potatoes, pasta. This second dish is stewed for about 1.5 hours, but it’s worth it – as a result, the meat literally melts in your mouth. Take the recipe to the “piggy bank” – and a delicious, tender meat dish will come in handy to any table.

Ingredients

  • Beef (shoulder) – 400 g
  • Tomatoes – 500 g (2 large)
  • Onions – 120 g (2 pcs.)
  • Wheat flour – 30 g (1 tablespoon)
  • Vegetable oil – 4 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Dried basil – 0.5 teaspoon (or to taste)
  • Dried marjoram – 0.5 teaspoon (or to taste)
  • Dried oregano – 0.5 teaspoon (or to taste)
  • Water – 250 ml
  • Green onions (for serving) – to taste (optional)

Directions

  1. Wash the tomatoes and cut them crosswise.
  2. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Dip the tomatoes in boiling water and leave for 7-8 minutes.
  3. Pour the tomatoes over with cold water and peel them – after boiling water, this is done very easily and simply. Cut out the attachment point of the stalk.
  4. Now cut the tomatoes into small cubes and set them aside for a while.
  5. Prepare the beef: cut into medium-sized pieces, cover with cling film (so as not to damage the fibers), and beat off with a kitchen hammer.
  6. Lightly grind each piece of beef with wheat flour.
  7. Then heat the pan, grease with vegetable oil (2 tablespoons). Place the meat in a pan and fry over medium heat for 2 minutes on each side.
  8. Peel the onion, rinse, dry, and cut into half rings. Boil 250 ml water for stewing meat with tomatoes and onions.
  9. Heat the remaining oil (2 tablespoons) in a separate skillet. Put onion and fry, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes, until light golden brown.
  10. Put the meat on the bottom of a saucepan with thick walls, put chopped tomatoes on top, sprinkle with salt and spices (black pepper, basil, marjoram, and oregano).
  11. Spread fried onions on top of the tomatoes.
  12. Pour 250 ml of hot water into a saucepan, cover the saucepan with a lid, and put on low heat. Simmer the meat for 1.5 hours.
  13. After a while, take a sample of the sauce and meat. Add salt if necessary. The dish turns out to be very tender and tasty.

Serve the beef with a side dish. For flavor and aroma, sprinkle with chopped green onions.
