Instructions

  1. Attention! The alcohol content of these jelly oranges should not be underestimated. The recipe is tailored to the amount of jelly powder for 500 ml of water. You can of course vary the ratio of alcohol to water.
  2. Cut the oranges in half and carefully hollow out the halves (with a knife or spoon). Please note that the shell should not be pierced if possible. Place the orange peel on a suitable surface that fits in your refrigerator (for example on an egg cup).
  3. First bring the 250 ml of water to a boil. Add the jelly and sugar, stirring constantly. Stir the boiling liquid until the sugar and powder are completely dissolved. Then take the pot off the stove and wait a minute.
  4. Then add the vodka while stirring. It doesn`t evaporate like this. The liquid jelly should now be evenly colored and nothing should have settled on the bottom. If you want to give the color a bluish cast, a small shot of Blue Curaçao can do no harm. You can also add a few small pieces of orange if you like.
  5. Then pour the jelly, which is still liquid, into the orange halves. Then put them in the refrigerator overnight.
  6. The jelly should be firm enough the next day. You can turn the orange halves upside down and it will stick.
  7. When the jelly is nice and firm, you can now place the oranges (with the opening facing down) on a cutting board and carefully quarter them again with a knife that is as sharp as possible, so that jelly orange slices are created. These have the perfect shape for a sweet and easy-to-eat snack that has it all!
  8. Since the eye is well known to eat, you can decorate with the orange slices as you like. A tray is ideal as a base. If you sprinkle a little sugar on the tray beforehand, the orange slices have a better hold, and when you nibble from them, the sugar sticking to the skins gives the whole thing that certain something!
  9. Instead of vodka, rum can also be used for the preparation!
  10. As a tip for Halloween: When I prepared red jelly with rum and a good dash of blue curacao, the result almost turned black. Poured into a bowl and crushed a little with a spoon, the result looks almost like caviar.
  11. If you put a few teaspoons of this in a glass of cola, the jelly rises after a short time and floats on the surface. Small pieces of jelly get into your mouth when you drink it, and when you squeeze them with your tongue, the rum and cola taste is great!
