Chakhokhbili (Caucasian Chicken or Duck Dish)

Do you like chicken? Then this step-by-step recipe is for you. According to the same recipe, you can cook chakhokhbili from the duck in Georgian.

Servings: 6


  • Chicken or duck- 1 pc.
  • Butter – 30 g (to taste)
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc.
  • Salt – 1 tbsp (to taste)
  • Water – 100 ml (to taste)
  • Bulgarian red pepper – 1-2 pcs.
  • Tomatoes – 1-2 pcs.
  • or tomato puree – 1 tbsp
  • Sour cream – 100 ml
  • Lemon vinegar – 2-3 drops


Products for chicken chakhokhbili (the same ingredients will be needed for duck chakhokhbili).

  1. Wash the chicken (or duck), chop it into portions.
  2. Peel the onion, wash, chop finely.
  3. Put butter in a frying pan. Melt.
  4. Put the onion in hot oil. Simmer finely chopped onion in butter until transparent over low heat, stirring occasionally (2-3 minutes).
  5. Add processed, chopped chicken or duck.
  6. Season with salt and simmer, pouring a little water over low heat under a closed lid (about 30 minutes).
  7. Wash the peppers and tomatoes. Cut into cubes.
  8. Add a small amount of paprika, tomato or tomato puree and season with a few drops of lemon vinegar. Simmer for another 10 minutes.
  9. Before serving, pour the chicken chakhokhbili with sour cream. Mix.
  10. Everything is ready, you can serve a Caucasian chicken dish.
