  1. Separate the eggs, scrape out the vanilla pod, grate the zest of half a lemon, mix approx. 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with a little water.
  2. Slowly heat the milk, egg yolk, sugar and vanilla, add the lemon zest. While stirring vigorously, add the starch until the mixture sets.
  3. Pour into shallow bowls and let cool until lukewarm. Before serving, sprinkle a thick layer of powdered sugar and use a burner (available at a hardware store) to caramelize the sugar until it is nice and brown. Granulated sugar is also possible as an alternative.

About Editorial Staff

The Boss Kitchen editorial staff oversees content review, fact-checking, and recipe verification across the site. Published articles pass through the editorial team before going live, ensuring ingredient lists, techniques, cooking times, and nutritional claims hold up in a home kitchen. The team coordinates contributions across the site writers, handles reader corrections, and maintains consistency in measurement conventions, safety guidance, and dietary labeling. Posts under this byline typically represent team-reviewed reference material, site announcements, or editorial roundups rather than individual-author features, and they are held to the same sourcing standards as bylined recipe and product coverage.
