Croutons with Stewed Apples

Croutons with apples are one of my children’s favorite breakfasts! Delicious apple slices on sweetish toasted white bread are incredibly easy to prepare. The products for this dish are quite inexpensive, and it can cause as much delight as a two-tiered cake. Prepare such a simple and delicious breakfast for your home.

Cook: 20 minutes

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • Sweet and sour apples – 400 g
  • White bread – 6 slices
  • Eggs – 2 pcs.
  • Milk – 2 tbsp
  • Sugar – 4 tbsp
  • Ground cinnamon – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Butter – 50 g
  • Fresh basil or mint, for garnish (optional) – to taste

Directions

  1. Wash the apples, peel, and cut into large pieces. Do not cut off the peel, so the apples will be whole after stewing and will not turn into porridge.
  2. For the caramel, add 2 tablespoon. tablespoons of sugar in a hot dry frying pan.
  3. Melt the sugar.
  4. Place apple slices and half (25 g) butter in caramel and simmer over medium heat until apples are soft for 7-10 minutes.
  5. Whisk the eggs into a deep bowl and add the remaining sugar and cinnamon. Stir.
  6. Pour milk into a bowl, beat until smooth.
  7. Dip slices of white bread in an egg and milk on both sides rather quickly so that they don’t get too wet.
  8. Fry the croutons in the remaining butter on one side until golden brown. On medium heat, this takes 3 minutes.
  9. Flip over and cook for 3 more minutes.
  10. Remove the prepared croutons from the pan and place them on a plate. Fry the next serving of croutons in the same way.
  11. When all the croutons are fried, we arrange them for serving.
  12. Put the apples on the croutons together with the juice released during stewing. Decorate the top with mint or fresh basil leaves.
