Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and the sugar. Mix the butter in flakes with the flour. Gradually pour in the milk and knead the whole thing with the sultanas to form a dough. The dough should be smooth and firm, add a little milk or flour if necessary. Let rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
Roll out the dough about 2 cm thick on a floured work surface. Using a glass, cut out circles 5 to 8 cm in diameter. Place these on a greased baking sheet and let rest for 5 minutes.
Then bake for about 10-12 minutes until golden. The circles should roughly double their volume. Let cool on a kitchen rack. Serve warm with butter or slightly sweetened whipped cream and strawberry jam (also raspberry or cherry).
