Forshmak (Chopped Herring)

We offer you a recipe that has been passed down in our family from generation to generation – a recipe for chopped herring (forshmak).

Ingredients

  • Lightly salted herring – 2 pcs.
  • Boiled eggs – 3 pcs.
  • Sour apple – 1 pc.
  • Bulb onions – 2 pcs.
  • Walnuts – 100 g
  • Butter – 50 g
  • Grape vinegar 5% – 60 ml
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

Directions

  1. We prepare products for forshmak.
  2. We clean the herring from skin and bones, do not throw away the head and tail.
  3. Soak herring fillets in milk for 1 hour.
  4. We pass fillets of two herrings, 3 hard-boiled eggs, nuts, an apple, butter and 2 onions through a meat grinder.
  5. We mix. Add vinegar and black pepper.
  6. We spread the forshmak in the plate.
  7. We decorate forshmak and serve as a cold appetizer to the festive table.
