Believe it or not, this is delicious … To make forshmak, we need seemingly completely incompatible ingredients. And originality, in my opinion, is not to be occupied by forshmak.

Ingredients

  • Lightly salted herring – 1 pc.
  • Small sour apple – 1 pc.
  • Small onion – 1 pc
  • Boiled egg – 1 pc.
  • Lemon – 1/2 pc.
  • White bread without the crust – 50 g
  • Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Vinegar, preferably apple or grape – 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Pepper to taste
  • Milk – 1-1.5 cups
  • Black bread (optional) – 1/2 pc.

Directions

  1. The first thing we need to do is peel the herring, separate the fillet and remove all the bones from it.
    Then you need to soak this fillet (attention!) In milk. In some cases, fillets are soaked in tea leaves or water, but milk is said to work better. So, you need to soak the fillets all night. That is, they soaked it in the evening – in the morning they continued to cook. Although, you can limit yourself to 4 hours. The main thing is that the herring is not very salty.
    (If the herring is lightly salted, you do not need to soak it.)
  2. The second stage is even more fun. We need to soak white bread in milk.
    While it is soaking, we take out the herring fillet (we no longer need milk here) and grind it in a meat grinder.
    Immediately after it, grind the onion and apples peeled from the peel and core. By the way, this is where we need a lemon. It is better to immediately pour the ground apples with the juice squeezed out of the lemon.
    For apples, white bread squeezed from milk is sent to the meat grinder.
    It remains to peel the boiled egg, grate it and add to the total … mass.
  3. Eh, this photo is the perfect image showing the general degree of panic I experienced while preparing this dish.
    We need to mix oil, pepper, vinegar, sugar and mustard in one container (by the way, most often this is where the built-in boiled yolk is).
    Then we send all this to the previously ground ingredients. We mix everything well and diligently.
    It will turn out like this. Better put it in the refrigerator for a little while.
  4. In the meantime, let’s get busy with bread – this is a bonus point. We need to cut circles out of pieces of black bread. This is not necessary, but for a given dish, even the smallest decoration is already a victory. Then we put a forshmak on it. Enjoy your meal.
