Herring Forshmak

Forshmak is a cold dish made from salted herring, apple, onion and butter. Served with bread, optional with lemon and fresh herbs.

Ingredients

  • Lightly salted herring fillet – 250 g
  • White bread – 1 slice
  • Apple (sour) – 1 pc.
  • Sweet onions – 1 pc.
  • Processed cheese – 100 g
  • Butter – 100 g
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Water – 2 tbsp
  • Green onions (optional) – for serving

How to make herring forshmak

Directions

  1. We take out the butter from the refrigerator and put it in a warm place. Cut the white bread into a small cube, send it to a small container. Add water to the bread.
  2. Finely chop the fillet of slightly salted herring and send to the blender.
  3. Finely chop the sweet onion and add to the herring in a blender.
  4. Remove the core of the sour apple and peel it. Finely chop the apple and send it to the blender.
  5. We cut the processed cheese and send it to the blender.
  6. Beat in a blender until smooth.
  7. We send white bread soaked in water to the crushed mass in a blender.
  8. Add softened butter to the blender.
  9. Pepper to taste.
  10. Beat the forshmak in a blender until smooth.
  11. Herring forshmak is ready. Spread it on bread, you can sprinkle with green onions.
