Grilled Mackerel

A simple way to cook mackerel on charcoal, in a wire rack.

Cook: 20 minutes

Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • Mackerel – 2 pcs.
  • Lemon – 1 pc.
  • Salt – 2 pinches

Directions

  1. To grill mackerel, defrost the fish in advance (preferably in the refrigerator).
  2. Cut the lemon into circles, about 5 mm thick. For one medium-sized mackerel, you need 3 circles.
  3. If you bought mackerel with a head and unpeeled, then cut off the head and tail of the fish and gut the mackerel. Then rinse with cold water and pat dry. Cut the mackerel lengthwise and spread it out in a “book”.
  4. When the coals in the charcoal grill are almost ready for roasting, place the mackerel on the wire rack, lightly salt and place the lemon on the inside.
    Fix the fish in the rack so that it does not change position. The grill will press the lemons, they will let the juice and soak the mackerel a little. This simple marinating is quite enough for this oily fish with a bright taste.
  5. Grill the mackerel on the grill until cooked, periodically turning the wire rack over.
  6. Depending on the size (thickness of the fish) and the design of the barbecue, the cooking time for mackerel on charcoal may vary but focus on 15 minutes.
