Ingredients

  • 700 g berries, fully ripe Mahonia berries
  • 500 g suar
  • 5 g citric acid
Mahonia Syrup
Mahonia Syrup

Instructions

  1. Strip the Mahonia berries from the stem, wash them and place in a saucepan. Top up with water until covered. Add the sugar and citric acid and bring to the boil. Let simmer for another 10 minutes. Strain, fill the syrup into well-sealable bottles and seal while still hot.
  2. When cooked, Mahonia berries are no longer poisonous, similar to elderberries! But they also lose their original taste, which is sour and a lot of vitamin C is lost, as with many types of fruit.

About Editorial Staff

The Boss Kitchen editorial staff oversees content review, fact-checking, and recipe verification across the site. Published articles pass through the editorial team before going live, ensuring ingredient lists, techniques, cooking times, and nutritional claims hold up in a home kitchen. The team coordinates contributions across the site writers, handles reader corrections, and maintains consistency in measurement conventions, safety guidance, and dietary labeling. Posts under this byline typically represent team-reviewed reference material, site announcements, or editorial roundups rather than individual-author features, and they are held to the same sourcing standards as bylined recipe and product coverage.
