Mix the butter, marzipan, sugar and salt until smooth. Stir in egg and almonds. Sift the flour over it, partly stir in, partly knead in.
Shape the dough into 2 rolls, each 35 cm long. Wrapped in foil, cool for 2 hours, cut into 8 mm thick slices and place them on the baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake on the middle rail of the 175 degree oven (gas: level 2) for 10-15 minutes.
Let cool on a rack. Melt the chocolate and sprinkle the thalers in very fine lines.
