Ingredients

  • 1 kg onion (s) or shallots
  • 30 g butter
  • 100 g raisins
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ¼ clove (s), ground
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ ginger, ground
  • 250 g suar, brown
  • 150 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 40 g walnuts, rouhly chopped
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel the onions and cut into strips. Sauté in the butter in a saucepan. When they are translucent, add the raisins, spices, sugar and vinegar. Salt and pepper. Stir well and simmer for at least 45 minutes over low heat, until there is no more liquid.
  2. Add the walnuts at the end of the cooking time.
  3. Let it cool down or fill it into glasses while it is still hot and store like a jam.
  4. The chutney tastes good with bread and cheese or with pies of any kind or with grilled meat.
