Pasta casserole with béchamel sauce and cheese turns out delicious and satisfying. Béchamel sauce gives a special tenderness to the dish, and a large amount of cheese gives a rich taste! We boil the pasta, prepare the sauce, mix everything together, and send it to bake in the oven. Simple cooking steps will lead to a simple yet delicious meal.
Prepare your ingredients. For this dish, it is best to take small pasta: horns, shells, or feathers. Choose a delicious cheese that melts well.
Boil the pasta. Pour 2.5 liters of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Season the water with a generous pinch of salt, add pasta, and cook until half cooked (2-3 minutes less than indicated on the package). Then discard the pasta in a colander. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
Start preparing the béchamel sauce at the same time as the pasta. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
Then add flour and, stirring with a whisk, fry it for one minute. Without stopping stirring the sauce, pour in all the milk in small portions.
Over low heat, stirring thoroughly with a whisk, bring the sauce to a boil and thicken. Turn off heating.
Season the sauce to taste with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. At this stage, do not overdo it with salt, as cheese is also added to the sauce, which can be quite salty. Grate 100 g of cheese on a coarse grater.
Add cheese to sauce and stir until smooth. At this point, you can taste the sauce and add some salt or pepper if needed. Add pasta to the finished sauce and stir.
Lubricate a ceramic or glass baking dish with a capacity of about 1 liter with a thin layer of vegetable oil.
Place the pasta in the sauce into a mold. Grate 50 g of cheese on a coarse grater and sprinkle the pasta on top.
Send the form into an oven preheated to 180 degrees and bake the dish for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown on top.
Delicious pasta casserole with béchamel sauce and cheese is ready!
