French Croutons with Apple Filling

French sweet croutons with apple filling are a great breakfast every day.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Baton – 4 slices 2.5 cm thick
  • Milk – 0.5 cups
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar for serving – 1 tbsp
  • Vegetable oil

    For filling:

  • Apples (Gala) (chopped into cubes) – 2 glasses (1-2 pcs.)
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Brown sugar – 0.25 cups
  • Ground cinnamon – 0.5 teaspoon.

Directions

  1. Prepare the filling. Heat the butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Put the apples in a frying pan, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes, until the apples are golden brown. Transfer the apple filling to a bowl and set aside.
  2. Make a cut in each slice of bread, but not completely, so that a pocket is formed. Put 3 tablespoon in each such pocket. tablespoons of apple filling.
  3. Pour milk, egg into a bowl, add vanilla extract, beat slightly. Heat a large skillet over medium heat, brush with vegetable oil.
  4. Take one slice of bread, dipped completely in milk, and put in a preheated pan, fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side.
  5. Place the prepared croutons on a serving dish, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve with the remaining apple filling.
