German Krebli (Donuts)

German krebli (taratushki) resemble brushwood or crunches in shape, but in krebli the dough does not crunch, on the contrary, it is soft and airy like in donuts. According to this recipe, krebli are cooked with sour cream and sour milk, and they turn out to be very lush and tasty.

Ingredients

  • Sour milk or kefir – 500 ml
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Sour cream – 300 g
  • Wheat flour – 900 g + for adding a table
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp + 500 ml (for frying)
  • Baking powder for dough – 1 sachet (15-18 g)
  • Dry yeast – 1 teaspoon (full)
  • Powdered sugar – optional

Directions

  1. Prepare the dough. Combine sour cream and egg.
  2. Send sour milk or kefir, odorless vegetable oil, dry yeast, salt, and sugar there. (It is very important that all products for the dough are warm at room temperature. In no case from the refrigerator, and it is advisable to even slightly warm kefir or sour milk.) Let the dough stand for 3-5 minutes so that the yeast is completely dissolved in the liquid.
  3. Sift flour with a bag of baking powder and stir. (If you don’t have baking powder, you can use a teaspoon of baking soda – add it along with the yeast to the liquid ingredients.) Gradually add the flour mixture to the liquid ingredients. Each time, stirring, knead a soft, elastic, slightly sticky dough.
    (You may need a little more flour or a little less flour. Do not “hammer” the dough with flour. Let it be slightly sticky, but then the finished crumb (donuts) will be airy and bubbly).
  4. Basically, the dough is ready, and you can already shape and fry the krebli. But if you give him an hour to rest, then the donuts will be especially lush.
  5. To make it easier to work with the dough, sprinkle flour on the table. Roll out the dough into a layer 0.5 cm thick, cut out diamonds or squares, make an incision in the middle of each and pass one end of the square (diametermond) through the incision. The crubs are obtained.
  6. Fry krebli (donuts) in a large amount of vegetable oil over medium heat on both sides until golden brown.
  7. Krebli in hot vegetable oil grow quickly and turn red just as quickly – literally for a couple of minutes on one side and one minute on the other.
  8. German Crebels are ready, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
