Ingredients

  • 8 fish fillet (s) (salted herring fillets or matjes), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 500 ml red wine vinegar
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 150 g onion (s), red, cut into rins
  • 1 small carrot (s), sliced
  • 1 piece (s) ginger ( cm), peeled, sliced
  • 30 g horseradish, peeled, sliced
  • 6 grains allspice
  • 3 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 4 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Cook the vinegar with the sugar until the sugar dissolves and then allow to cool.
  2. Alternately pour the fish, all the vegetables and the spices into an appropriate glass. Pour in the cooled marinade so that everything is well covered. Leave the fish to stand in a cool jar for 2-3 days.
  3. Tip: Serve with buttered black bread or jacket potatoes.
