Ingredients

  • 4 rolls, stale
  • 300 ml milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons brandy, or rum flavoring to taste
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 egg whites
  • 100 g hazelnuts, round
  • Clarified butter, for baking

Instructions

  1. Cut the rolls into 2cm thick slices. Mix the milk with the egg yolk, brandy or rum flavor and sugar. Place the bread rolls in a bowl, pour the milk mixture over them and leave to soak.
  2. Lightly beat the egg whites with a fork. Turn the bread rolls in egg white and hazelnuts and fry them brown in clarified butter.
  3. It tastes even better with slices of a yeast plait.
  4. This goes well with vanilla sauce, cinnamon sugar or compote.
