Ingredients

  • 200 g flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ salt
  • 50 g butter, soft
  • 150 g cheese (Edamer or Old Amsterdam), rated
  • 25 g sunflower seeds
  • 60 g applesauce, or a finely rated fresh apple
  • 2 Table spoons milk

Instructions

  1. You can use wheat or spelled flour, from ground to whole grain, depending on your taste.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and chili powder, then work in the butter until a crumbly batter is formed. Work in the cheese, sunflower seeds and applesauce or grated apples. If the dough is too dry, add 2 to 5 tablespoons of milk.
  3. You can roll out the dough (approx. 1 cm thick) and cut out circles with a glass or use the ice cream scoop to shape small balls that you press flat. I prefer the second variant because you can keep the dough more moist and the scones are juicier. If you like, you can sprinkle the scones with a few sunflower seeds.
  4. Bake at 200 ° C (convection 180 ° C) for about 12 to 15 minutes.
  5. I like to eat the scones with butter, with salmon, with cream cheese, topped with a piece of cold cuts or cheese. I dip them in dips, sauces or eat them as they are.
  6. I like them when I`m sad, when I`m happy, when the sun is shining, the blizzard is raging - always.
