I love biscuit cakes. For my grandmother’s birthday she baked a sponge cake “Poppy”. Well, very tasty.
Ingredients
For the dough:
Eggs – 5 pcs.
Sugar – 1 glass
Flour – 1 glass
Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
Cognac – 1 tbsp
Oil – for lubricating the mold
For the cream:
Butter – 200 g
Condensed milk – 1 can (380 g)
Vanilla sugar – 1 sachet (10 g)
For decoration:
Poppy – 100 g
Walnuts – 100 g
Chocolate (optional) – 50 g
Directions
Turn on the oven. Separate the whites from the yolks. Add sugar (3/4 cup) to the whites and beat until firm.
Beat the yolks with the remaining sugar.
Sift flour, mix with baking powder. Combine the whites with the yolks very carefully, add the cognac. Add flour in portions and stir the dough gently with a wooden spoon from bottom to top.
Grease the form with butter, pour out the dough.
Place the dough pan in the oven on the middle shelf. Bake the biscuit at 180 degrees for 40 minutes. Do not open the oven!
Cool the finished biscuit on a wire rack. Cut into 3 cakes.
Make a cream. Beat soft butter with condensed milk and vanilla sugar.
Peel the nuts, dry in the oven or in a dry frying pan over medium heat. Crush the nuts into crumbs with a rolling pin.
Put one sponge cake on a dish, grease with condensed milk and butter cream, put the next cake on it, etc. Shape the cake. Grease the top and sides of the sponge cake with cream as well.
Decorate the sponge cake with chopped nuts. You can decorate the top of the cake with a chocolate spider web. To do this, melt black or milk chocolate, pour several circles of different dias in a thin stream, and then immediately draw evenly with a toothpick from the center to the edges, giving the pattern the shape of a cobweb. Decorate the sponge cake with poppy seeds on top. Let the ”Poppy” biscuit cake soak for several hours in the refrigerator.
