An excellent lean spread for sandwiches or filling for tartlets is a pate made from canned beans and fried onions. Bean pâté will be a great hearty snack or a savory snack for a festive table. The pate is delicious both freshly prepared and the next day.

Canned Bean and Fried Onion Pate Ingredients

  • Canned beans – 1 can (without liquid – 200-230 g)
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc. (100 g)
  • Garlic – 3 cloves
  • Fresh dill – 4-5 branches (10 g)
  • Ground paprika – 2-3 pinches
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) – 2 tbsp
  • Fresh greens (optional) – for serving (to taste)

  1. We prepare products according to the list. I use canned white beans in my own juice, but if desired, you can substitute red beans in white or tomato sauce, or even use regular dry beans boiled until tender.

  2. Peel the onion and garlic. Chop the onion into half rings, and finely chop the garlic with a knife.

  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Add chopped onion and garlic and, stirring occasionally, fry for about 3 minutes, until golden brown.
  4. Drain the excess liquid from the beans. Put the beans in the blender bowl.
  5. Add the fried onion and garlic.
  6. Beat at high speed for about 2-3 minutes, until smooth. Add salt, black pepper and paprika.
  7. We wash the dill, dry it and chop it finely with a knife.
  8. Add chopped dill to the blender bowl.
  9. Beat again at high speed for about 1-2 minutes, until smooth.
  10. Canned Beans and Fried Onions Pate is ready. We transfer the pate into serving dishes and serve to the table, decorating with fresh herbs if desired.
  11. You can serve this lean pâté on slices of bread, or fill tartlets with it.
