Authentic Churro Recipe (with Chocolate Sauce)

I’d like to share a recipe for churros, a very tasty, sweet, and deep-fried choux pastry. The homeland of this delicacy is considered Spain. It is there that churros are traditionally served for breakfast. It is customary to serve churros with hot and viscous chocolate and eat them by dipping them into it.

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • Butter – 25 g
  • Eggs – 1 pc.
  • Water – 125 ml
  • Vanilla sugar – 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Sugar – 1 tablespoon.
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Flour – 0.5 cup
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the sauce:

  • Cream – 70 ml
  • Butter – 15 g
  • Dark chocolate – 70 g

Directions

  1. Add the butter, salt, sugar, and vanilla sugar to the water, bring the mixture to a boil and cook until all ingredients dissolve.
  2. Add the flour to the resulting hot mixture, reduce the heat, and stir vigorously until homogeneous. Stir the dough until it starts to come off the walls of the saucepan. Then remove the saucepan from the heat.
  3. When the dough cools down a bit, add the egg and stir again until smooth.
  4. Transfer the resulting dough into a piping bag with a notched tip.
  5. Pour the vegetable oil into another saucepan and heat it vigorously. Squeeze out the dough into the heated oil in small batches cutting the dough with scissors. Brown the churros, then place them on a paper towel to get rid of any excess fat.
  6. To cook the sauce, add the butter and cream to the crushed chocolate. Heat up the chocolate mixture, stirring constantly, over a pan of simmering water or low heat. The sauce will gradually thicken and become homogeneous.

Churros are usually served in a paper bag along with the warm chocolate sauce. The churros cooked with this recipe are very tasty.
