Instructions

  1. This is a more classic Banitza recipe, as it is often prepared in Bulgaria. I limit myself to products that are easy to buy in the supermarket, they don`t taste bad and can be prepared so much faster.
  2. The puff pastry is rolled out after it has adjusted to room temperature and cut lengthways into 3 strips of equal width.
  3. The feta cheese is crushed in a bowl and mixed with finely chopped dill and parsley and a little peppered.
  4. The thawed spinach is evenly distributed in a line in the middle of the puff pastry strips, then the feta cheese. Close the filled puff pastry strips or form a closed tube, then fold them into a snail in a baking pan or baking sheet. Proceed in this way until all 3 parts have been put together to form a large screw. Gently flatten the Banitza with your hands.
  5. Mix two eggs and half a cup of sour cream in a bowl and spread over the banitsa, then sprinkle some crumbled feta cheese evenly on top.
  6. Bake the Banitza in the preheated oven at 200 ° for about 45 - 60 minutes, it is ready when the puff pastry is golden brown.
  7. Banitza can be prepared for all kinds of occasions, a Schopska salad, ajvar, tzatziki or just a glass of Ayran goes well with it.
