Cabbage Rolls with Rice and Lentils Baked in Tomato Sauce

Stuffed cabbage rolls with rice and lentils in tomato sauce will appeal to lovers of tasty and healthy food. Cabbage rolls are aromatic and very appetizing. Tomato sauce harmoniously complements the dish and makes the cabbage rolls even juicier.

Ingredients

  • White cabbage – 1.3 kg
  • Carrots – 120 g
  • Lentils – 70 g
  • Rice – 50 g
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp
  • Ground smoked paprika – 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin – 0.25 teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Salt to taste

For the tomato sauce:

  • Tomato juice – 700 ml
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon (juice) – 30 g
  • Ground turmeric – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Dried cumin – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. We prepare the necessary products.
  2. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and fill with water for 40 minutes.
  3. Rinse the rice and pour 200-250 ml of water. Boil for 15 minutes. We put it in a colander.
  4. Pour water into a large saucepan and put on heat, bring to a boil. Salt the boiling water, put the cabbage and cook for 15 minutes. If the cabbage is not completely submerged in boiling water, turn the cabbage over from time to time.
  5. Rinse the lentils again and pour 300 ml of water. Boil for 35-40 minutes, then put it in a colander.
  6. Peel the carrots and rub them on a fine grater.
  7. Preheat a frying pan with vegetable oil. We spread the carrots. Add paprika, cumin, black pepper and a little salt. Fry carrots with spices for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Combine lentils, rice and carrots. Salt to taste.
  9. Mix thoroughly.
  10. Remove the leaves from the cooled cabbage. We cut off the thickenings. If you plan to make large cabbage rolls, leave the leaves intact. I cut the cabbage leaves in half.
  11. Pour tomato juice into a pan, add spices (turmeric, cumin, black pepper), sugar and salt. Squeeze 1.5 tablespoon from the lemon. tablespoons of juice, add to the pan. Stir and cook the sauce for 5 minutes. We turn on the oven to heat up to 180 degrees.
  12. We form cabbage rolls. For each cabbage blank, put 1 tablespoon. a spoonful of filling.
  13. We fold the cabbage roll. We do this with all the cabbage and filling. I got 20 cabbage rolls.
  14. Pour half of the sauce into a baking dish.
  15. Stack the cabbage rolls tightly.
  16. Pour the cabbage rolls with the remaining sauce and send them to the preheated oven for 50 minutes.
  17. Let the finished dish cool slightly.
  18. Cabbage rolls with rice and lentils in tomato sauce are ready.
