Strudel with Apples and Cheese

English blue Stilton cheese (with mould) goes very well with apples as a filling for strudel.

Ingredients

  • Apples – 500 g
  • Stilton cheese (crumbled) – 250 g
  • Walnuts (chopped) – 30 g
  • Frozen filo dough (defrosted) – 10 sheets
  • Zest of one lemon
  • One lemon juice
  • Fresh thyme (chopped) – 10 branches
  • Nutmeg – to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Butter (melted) – 125 g
  • Dried bread crumbs – 75 g

Directions

  1. Turn on the oven to preheat to 180 degrees. Grease a large baking sheet with butter.
  2. Peel the apples, chop finely, put in a bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice, stir. Add lemon zest, cheese, walnuts, thyme, nutmeg and black pepper to a bowl.
  3. Remove the dough from the packaging, place on a floured surface and cover with a clean towel so that the dough does not dry out.
  4. Carefully separate a couple of sheets of dough, place them one by one in a baking sheet, brush with butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs. Put 2 more sheets of dough on top, then repeat the layers. When all the layers of dough are laid, put apples on top and roll the dough into a roll. Grease the roll with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle with little bread crumbs. Place the apple and cheese strudel in a preheated oven for 30-35 minutes.

Serve the apple and cheese strudel hot.
