Classic Strudel with Apples Ingredients

For the dough:

  • Sifted flour – 250 g + for sprinkling the table
  • Water – 125 ml
  • Vegetable oil – 1.5 tbsp
  • Salt – 0.5 teaspoon.

  • Apples – 700-800 g
  • Lemon (zest) – 1 pc.
  • Bread crumbs (or chopped nuts, or chopped cookies) – 2 tbsp
  • Sugar – 1-2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice – 2 teaspoon.
  • Vanilla or cinnamon sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Raisins (optional) – 50-100 g
  • Cognac or rum (optional) – 1 tbsp

How to make apple strudel

Classic Strudel with Apples Instructions

  1. Let’s make the dough. Add salt to the flour, mix. Let’s make a depression, pour water and vegetable oil into it. Gently knead the stretched dough first in a bowl with a fork (until smooth), then with your hands on a table dusty with flour for about 10 minutes. Grease the finished dough with vegetable oil and cover with a hot bowl for 30-40 minutes.

  2. Let’s prepare the filling. Peel the apples and cut them into thin slices. Mix with zest and lemon juice.
    (If you use raisins, then it must be steamed beforehand. You can add 1 tablespoon. A spoonful of brandy or rum – for flavour.)
  3. Lubricate the mould generously with butter.
  4. Roll out the dough into a thin layer and gently stretch until transparent, first in the middle, and then the edges.
  5. Sprinkle the dough with breadcrumbs, put apples, sugar and vanilla sugar on top.

  6. Roll up, put in a greased form. The apple strudel can also be brushed with melted butter on top (optional).

  7. We bake at 190 ° C for about 35 minutes. Brush the finished apple strudel with melted butter (optional) and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
